This is a vinyl LP pressing of Jazz: Red, Hot and Cool by The Dave Brubeck Quartet. Dave Brubeck began his recording career in the early 1940s and formed an octet in 1946, with alto saxophonist Paul Desmond joining in 1950. The first regular formation of the Dave Brubeck Quartet featured Joe Dodge on drums and either Bob or Norman Bates on bass, with the version featuring Dodge and Bob Bates being the one heard on this album. Jazz: Red, Hot and Cool was recorded live at New York's Basin Street Club on two separate occasions: one session occurred between the studio sessions for the LP Time (which celebrated Brubeck’s appearance on the cover of Time magazine), and the second took place in July of the following year. This limited edition vinyl captures the vibrant energy of these performances.
