This is a vinyl LP pressing of Africa / Brass by the John Coltrane Quartet. Marking Coltrane’s first album with a big band, this landmark release features bold, expansive arrangements brought to life by an unconventional ensemble including four French horns, tuba, euphoniums, multiple reed players, and a rhythm section with two bassists. The compositions, co-written by Coltrane and McCoy Tyner and orchestrated by Eric Dolphy, highlight Coltrane’s evolving musical vision and set the stage for his deeper explorations into modal jazz and large-scale sonic experimentation.
