Many pop artists of the era interpreted well-known standards with their own unique style or recorded soundtrack and movie-related songs, including Nat “King” Cole’s “Mona Lisa,” Frank Sinatra’s “Autumn in New York,” The Andrews Sisters’ “I Can Dream, Can’t I?,” Peggy Lee’s “Golden Earrings,” and the Chordettes’ “Mr. Sandman.” Early 1950s pop was still strongly influenced by jazz, swing, and big band, creating a sound that bridged tradition and innovation.
