Callas À Paris - Maria Callas (Vinyl) (AE)

This is a vinyl LP pressing of Callas à Paris by Maria Callas. Callas' recordings of French music are indeed rare and exquisite jewels. Singing the French version of Gluck's "Alceste," a role she had sung brilliantly in Italian, she dazzles with a dignified elegance and brilliant style, as well as with crystal-clear diction and perfect phrasing. Her "Carmen" breathes fire and may be the most dangerously sexy gypsy you will ever hear. Saint-Saëns' evil seductress, "Dalilah," is sung with a totally different voice—silken, husky, and erotic—making it almost unbearable not to fall prey to this siren. Her "Mignon" is deliciously beautiful, but the highlight is her "Pleurez mes yeux," where Callas finds colors and incredibly haunting pathos.
