This is a blue vinyl LP pressing of Monk Live in Paris, 1967, Vol. 1 by Thelonious Monk. A newly unearthed and fully restored recording of Monk’s 1967 Paris concert, long considered one of the most elusive performances from his European tour, this release marks the first official archival issue from the Monk Estate. Captured at the height of his creative powers, it features Monk with his classic quartet—Charlie Rouse, Larry Gales, and Ben Riley—alongside special guest appearances from notable jazz musicians including Phil Woods, Jimmy Cleveland, Johnny Griffin, Ray Copeland, and Clark Terry. Showcasing extended live interpretations of Monk classics such as “Epistrophy,” “Evidence,” “We See,” and “Ruby, My Dear,” the performance highlights his singular compositional style and improvisational brilliance, blending angular harmonies with lyrical expression in a vibrant, spontaneous live setting recorded at the Salle Pleyel in Paris on November 3, 1967.
