This is a CD pressing of The $5.98 E.P.: Garage Days Re-Revisited by Metallica, an extended play released on August 21, 1987, by Elektra Records. The EP features a collection of covers from late-1970s and early-1980s New Wave of British Heavy Metal and hardcore punk bands, rehearsed in Lars Ulrich’s soundproofed garage and recorded in Los Angeles over the course of six days. It was the band’s first recording to feature new bassist Jason Newsted and their first release following the death of bassist Cliff Burton. The release showcases Metallica’s expanding thrash metal sound, using speed and volume not just for intensity but to enhance their intricately structured compositions.
